Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are used to provide shape and contour to your face. They are used to restore lost volume and give fullness to regions of the face that are beginning to age. Over time the fat pads in our faces become smaller. We also have some bony reabsorption and loss of collagen and elastin in the skin. All of these changes together age us and we start to not look like ourselves. Replacing your lost volume with dermal fillers restores your youthful contours. They accentuate your best features and bring balance to your facial proportions. The goal with any of our filler treatments at Simplicity Aesthetics is to create a perfectly natural, yet transformative result. When fillers are placed properly, they should create desirable contours and a youthful appearance while remaining completely undetectable.

Our expert aesthetic provider at Simplicity Aesthetics is proud to offer Restylane, Juvéderm and RHA Collection dermal fillers.  These fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which is naturally broken down in the skin over time. Fillers generally last anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years and are all reversible if an adjustment is needed.

Getting ready for your appointment

Before Your Filler Treatment:

-The most common side effects for a filler treatment are swelling and bruising. So, with that in mind, planning your treatment for a timeframe where potential swelling and bruising won’t disrupt your life too severely. Avoid treatments at least 2-4 weeks from any major event.

-If you have an active infection anywhere in the body, you can not be treated and need to be rescheduled.

-Avoid dental work for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your filler treatment.

-If you suffer from cold sores more than a few times a year, you may need to be pretreated with Valtrex. Please let us know.

-Avoid alcohol, aspirin, vitamin E, fish oil, non-steriodal anti-inflamatory medications like ibuprofen and Advil 3 days prior to treatment to decrease the risk of bruising.

-To avoid possible discomfort, you can take 1000mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) one hour before your scheduled appointment.

-You may apply topical Arnica or take oral Arnica as directed 3 days prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and after treatment to assist in clearing bruising.

-Drinking 8 oz. of pineapple juice twice a day for 2-3 days before and 2-3 days after injections may also help with potential bruising and swelling.

What to expect at your appointment

One hour before your appointment, you can take 1000mg of Tylenol to help with the potential discomfort. When you arrive at Simplicity Aesthetics, you will have before pictures taken and your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied. While you are numbing any last minute concerns will be addressed, consents will be signed and your filler will be prepared. The numbing cream will be removed and your skin will be cleansed with a medical grade antibacterial cleanser. The treated areas will be iced to decrease the chance of bruising and the filler will be injected into the areas of concern. After you are treated you will be instructed on how to care for your new filler during the healing phase. A 2 week follow up appointment will be scheduled. That will conclude your visit.

What to expect after your appointment

If you have bruising:

Bruising is a common side effect to a filler treatment and should be expected.

-Continue using your oral and topical Arnica and drinking pineapple juice. This will help clear the bruising quicker.

-Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, ginkgo, St. John’s Wort, turmeric, vitamin E and alcohol for several days to prevent the bruises from getting worse.

-Make up can cover bruising. Peach tones work well to cover purple bruising, while green tones can cover reds. There are also makeup kits on the market specifically for covering bruises.

If you have swelling:

Swelling is a common side effect with a filler treatment and should be expected. Areas such as lips and the under eye region generally suffer the most due to increased blood flow and lymph channels in those areas. Swelling from the procedure may last up to a week. You can use cold compresses, take antihistamine medications like Zyrtec and sleep with an extra pillow to help.
